Terrifying Myself
Surgery for my wife went great, exciting news about an upcoming interview, my house giving me one hell of a jump scare, and much more
Hello,
It's quite a beautiful morning outside as I sit and work on this newsletter. Temps have dropped the last couple of days around here out of the 80s and 90s, and it's only supposed to hit 74 today. That sounds great to me. That's jeans and a T-shirt kind of weather for me. My favorite kind of weather.
Surgery on Wednesday of last week for my wife went great. We were both a bit nervous sitting there waiting for it to get going. Then, after prepping her, I held her hand and gave her a kiss, and nervously headed out to the waiting room. I don't like Surgery, especially when it's my wife having surgery. But my daughter kept me distracted by talking with me, and helped me pass the time until they came and told us she was all done, everything went great, and she was ready to go home. Got her in the car, where she passed out for a bit, then got her home and in the house and comfortable in bed. Spent the rest of Wednesday letting her rest, intermittently bothering her to give her her meds when I needed to, changing her bloody gauze, and just trying to take care of her. The rest of the week was spent making sure she had everything she needed, taking care of her when she needed it, and running and getting her anything I could. She did great, I know it's not fun having four teeth removed like that, but she did awesome. As of today she's doing really good, still a bit sore but that's to be expected, but otherwise everything's going great and she's healing nicely. Still eating soft foods, but I'm sure soon she'll be back to enjoying everything she wants to.
Got some exciting news for you. I am going to be interviewed! Yep, my first author interview! I am terrified, lol. I'm not going to get into specifics about it just yet, I'll talk more in next weeks newsletter about it, but yeah, this upcoming weekend I will be doing an author interview over zoom. Excited that someone has an interest in interviewing me about being an indie author. Just hope I don't sound too dumb in the interview, lol. I'm a bit nervous, very excited, and just trying to tell myself that I will do fine. So, eagerly awaiting that interview. Like I said, I will put out more details about it in next weeks newsletter.
Got quite a scare last Monday. I was deep in the middle of writing a scene when there was a loud bang. Loud enough that it made all three of our dogs wake up from sleeping, made me jump a bit on the couch, and scared the hell out of the four of us. What's funny was I had been working in the office writing my book, but a couple of our dogs had thrown up, and after cleaning that up I decided that moving out to our family room where I could hear if they were going to throw up again would be a better idea. So sitting there on the couch, I got back to work on my book, diving back into the current chapter I was working on. My brain was completely honed in on what I was doing, in the middle of a pretty terrifying scene. Then all of a sudden there's this loud bang, the dogs immediately jump up and run to the door and start barking like someone's here. I didn't know what had happened. Setting my computer aside, I went to investigate but didn't find anything out of order or fallen down. Everything was how it should be. So I was confused on what the noise had been. I went out and investigated the garage, and still found nothing Out of place. It didn't make any sense, where had the noise come from? Shrugging it off, I went back to work on my book. Later after my wife got home she had noticed that the one hanger that holds one of our hanging plants was angled downward, the hanging plant sitting down several feet lower than where it should be. Apparently one of the screws we had anchored in the wall with wall anchors, had decided to let go. It had swung the plant holder down making it strike the wall, thus the bang I had heard. That was the one area I hadn't investigated and if I had, I would've noticed the plant hanging lower than normal. Just gave me quite a jump scare while I was in the middle of writing. Thanks house, I certainly needed that.
Finished reading The Country of the Blind: A Memoir at the End of Sight by Andrew Leland. This was a really interesting book to read. I found it very fascinating following along with this gentleman's journey with the same eye disease I have. It was interesting listening to him talk about his personal life changes as his eye disease worsened and his vision decreased. I felt like I had Already been through a lot of the same kind of things. There was also a good amount of research and facts about our eye disease that I hadn't known about, or kept up on. So that was really great stuff to learn about. Quite interesting reading about an eye disease that I have from someone else's point of view that has the same thing. Lots of our thoughts and feelings on it were the same, but also very different at times as well. I think this would be an interesting book for anyone to read, grab yourself a copy today.
Also finished reading Incidents Around the House by Josh Malerman. Wow, what a hell of a book! I was hooked immediately from the start, and couldn't stop reading this book. Honestly, I read it any available moment I had. Yeah, it was that damn good. Interesting, intriguing, chilling, and just damn amazing. Josh is one hell of an amazing writer, and I love reading his books. This book was so gripping and I couldn't stop reading it. Get yourself a copy today, you will love it like I did. That is, if you're brave enough to read it.
Speaking of books, if you haven't picked up a copy of my book One Tree in Hell; A Poetry Collection, or my book Dead Echoes and Silent Screams, you should head on over to Amazon and grab a copy. One Tree in Hell is available in e-book and paperback, and features 48 all original poems I wrote. Dead Echoes and Silent Screams is available in e-book, paperback, and hardback, and features 20 short horror stories I wrote. I had a lot of fun writing both books, and hope you'll grab a copy today and enjoy one of them, or both of them. Thanks so much.

Currently reading: Boys in the Valley by Philip Fracassi.
Currently listening: rocked out to my Metal playlist the other day. It's always a good time for some Metal music. That playlist features bands like Static-X, Slipknot, Upon a Burning Body, The Amity Affliction, While She Sleeps, Cannibal Corpse, Motionless in White, Disturbed, and other great bands like that.
Currently watching: actually nothing, the wife and I haven't had time to catch up on the new episode of Mayor of Kingstown. Hopefully we can do that this evening.
Going to try to get a lot of writing done today. Lately Mondays have been a very productive writing day for me. I get this newsletter done and out there, do a little journaling, then go right into work on my next book Dark. So I'm hoping that's the case today, and I can really make some great progress. I know I'm getting close to ending the book, so I'm eager to get back to work on it, and see where it goes over the next couple of chapters. I've mentioned before that I already have a possible ending wrote for this book. We will just have to see though when I get to that point if I keep that ending, or change it, or even use it at all. I don't know yet. I won't know that until my main character makes a bit more progress, and finds himself dealing with some more fun stuff. So, we will just have to see.
I hope wherever you are reading this, you've gotten a break from the hot weather and are enjoying some much more comfortable temperatures. If not, try to stay cool and hydrated. I'm going to go make up a big ass cup of coffee, to try to get my brain functioning this morning. I think you should go make coffee too. Even if it's hot where you are, still, a great cup of coffee will help. I mean, why not right? Anyway, take it easy my friends, and I'll talk to you soon.
Thank you for reading this weeks newsletter. I hope to see you back here next week. Be yourself, be original, and be bloody.
